I recently gave Cardiology Grand Rounds at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital. The discussion is a good primer on machine learning and AI as well as a review of how these applications differ from more traditional statistics. I present a case study that describes an algorithm we built to help diagnose and localize atypical atrial flutter from 12 lead ECGs. I also review more recent advances in AI, including LLMs and multimodal foundation models, and discuss where this technology may take us in the future. It seemed like appropriate content for the readers of this blog. Enjoy.
